A Shaky Start

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to recalibrate after a frustrating 28-20 loss to the New York Giants to open the 2026 season. While the team's defensive performance has drawn significant scrutiny, the offense also struggled to find its rhythm. Central to the conversation is star wide receiver George Pickens, who managed only three catches for 28 yards on seven targets during the defeat.

Coach's Confidence

Despite the uncharacteristic drop issues that plagued Pickens in the opener, head coach Brian Schottenheimer is publicly downplaying any long-term concerns. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Schottenheimer expressed full confidence in his Pro Bowl receiver. "George will be just fine," Schottenheimer stated. "He’s gonna usually catch that ball going down the sideline and probably pull through it, then jump over people and spin and then jump into the end zone. So, I don’t worry about George."

Player Accountability

Pickens himself has acknowledged the need for immediate improvement as the team prepares for their next divisional matchup. The receiver emphasized that the team is operating with a sense of urgency to correct their mistakes. "It’s definitely urgent, because it’s another division game, such as the Giants was," Pickens noted. "We definitely need to nail down our Ps and Qs. I think that’s the mindset that people are honing in now."

Looking Ahead

As the Cowboys navigate the early weeks of the 2026 campaign, the focus shifts to the Washington Commanders. For Pickens, who signed a franchise tag contract with the team in April, the goal is to regain the form that made him a standout performer. While the coaching staff remains patient, the pressure is mounting for the offense to provide more support and consistency to help the team bounce back in the competitive NFC East.
