Game Recap

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-4 at Busch Stadium, showcasing a strong offensive performance accompanied by solid pitching. The Diamondbacks set the tone early, scoring multiple runs in the first few innings that ultimately dictated the game's dynamic.

Ketel Marte was a standout for Arizona, going 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI, while also crossing the plate himself for a run. His solo home run in the fourth inning added to the Diamondbacks' lead and highlighted their offensive prowess. Tommy Troy also contributed significantly, finishing with 2 hits in 5 at-bats alongside 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored, underscoring his ability to drive in runs when it mattered most.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added depth to the lineup with 2 hits in 5 at-bats, bolstering the Diamondbacks' attack and scoring opportunities. Gabriel Moreno also made his presence felt with a single in 2 at-bats, driving in one run while drawing two walks, demonstrating his patience at the plate.

The Diamondbacks' pitching staff complemented the offensive effort effectively. Mitch Bratt delivered a solid 3-inning performance, allowing only 1 earned run on 2 hits while recording 3 strikeouts. Ryan Thompson and Jonathan Loaisiga followed up with commendable outings, contributing to a team ERA that kept the Cardinals' hitters in check for the majority of the game.

The Cardinals’ efforts were spearheaded by Jose Fermin, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 runs batted in, even as the team struggled to keep pace with the Diamondbacks. Blaze Jordan also made an impact with 2 hits and 3 RBIs, but it wasn't enough to overcome Arizona's significant lead as they fell behind early.

In contrast to the Diamondbacks’ ability to capitalize on their scoring chances, the Cardinals left several runners stranded, limiting their effectiveness. Matthew Liberatore faced challenges on the mound, giving up 6 earned runs over 5.1 innings, which set the stage for the Diamondbacks' offensive explosion.
