Game Recap

Boston Red Sox defeated Chicago White Sox 5-0 in a commanding performance at Rate Field. The Red Sox offense set the tone early, providing starter Jake Bennett with all the run support he would need to secure the shutout victory. The White Sox struggled to generate momentum against a stifling Boston pitching staff that allowed only a handful of baserunners throughout the contest.

The scoring was highlighted by contributions from across the Red Sox lineup. Tsung-Che Cheng was instrumental, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Carlos Narvaez also chipped in with an RBI, while Ceddanne Rafaela contributed a 2-for-5 performance that included an RBI. Boston's aggressive approach forced Chicago starter Davis Martin to labor through four innings, during which he allowed five runs on six hits.

Key Performances

Jake Bennett put on a clinic for Boston, tossing 7.0 shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out four batters. He threw 81 pitches, 53 of them for strikes, to lower his ERA to 2.64. The bullpen maintained the momentum, as Greg Weissert tossed a clean eighth inning and Jovani Moran struck out two in a perfect ninth to close out the game.

Offensively for the Red Sox, Caleb Durbin led the way by going 2-for-3 and scoring a run. Tsung-Che Cheng continued his effective day by drawing a walk and crossing the plate, while Masataka Yoshida also managed a hit and a run scored. Although Wilyer Abreu struck out three times, he managed to record a hit in his five at-bats.

The White Sox offense found little success against the Boston staff. Luisangel Acuna was a bright spot, recording two hits in two at-bats, and Sam Antonacci reached base safely with a hit and a walk. However, the rest of the Chicago lineup was silenced, as Colson Montgomery struggled with three strikeouts and Miguel Vargas and Randal Grichuk were held hitless in their respective appearances.

Chicago's relief corps performed admirably following the departure of Davis Martin. Chris Murphy, Seranthony Dominguez, and Bryan Hudson combined for three scoreless innings, while Trevor Richards pitched two scoreless frames of his own, striking out four and scattering three hits.
