Game Recap

Chicago Cubs defeated St. Louis Cardinals 10-2 at Busch Stadium in a dominant display of offense. The Cubs surged ahead early, fueled by a relentless attack that tagged Cardinals starter Michael McGreevy for 7 runs in just 1.2 innings. While the St. Louis bullpen managed to stabilize the game in the middle frames, the damage was already done as Chicago cruised to a lopsided win.

Key Performances

The Cubs' offensive effort was spearheaded by Seiya Suzuki, who went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Pedro Ramirez also had a standout game, contributing 3 hits in 5 at-bats with an RBI. Alex Bregman mirrored that success, going 3-for-5, while Ian Happ and Nico Hoerner each added 2 RBIs to the cause to help build the substantial lead.

On the mound, Colin Rea provided the Cubs with a strong start, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits. He struck out 2 batters and maintained control throughout his 94-pitch outing. The bullpen followed suit, with Tyler Ferguson tossing a scoreless inning and Andrew Wantz closing out the final 2.0 frames, allowing only 1 run.

For the St. Louis Cardinals, the offense struggled to generate momentum against Chicago pitching. Masyn Winn provided one of the few highlights, recording 2 hits in 4 at-bats with an RBI. Nathan Church also drove in a run while collecting 1 hit in 3 at-bats. Despite individual efforts from players like Lars Nootbaar and JJ Wetherholt, the Cardinals were unable to overcome the early deficit created by the Cubs.

The pitching struggles for St. Louis were central to the result. After Michael McGreevy's difficult start, Gordon Graceffo provided 2.1 innings of relief, allowing 1 run. Justin Bruihl showed promise in his 2.0 innings of work, striking out 4 batters and holding the Cubs scoreless, but later relief appearances by Peter Strzelecki and Matt Svanson each yielded an additional run.
