Game Recap

Cleveland Guardians defeated Miami Marlins 5-2 at loanDepot park behind a strong team effort that silenced the home crowd. The victory was largely shaped by early offensive contributions and high-quality pitching that kept the Marlins' offense contained for the majority of the contest.

The Guardians secured their lead through the long ball, with Brayan Rocchio and Chase DeLauter each providing critical home runs. The pitching staff combined for an impressive showing, headlined by starter Joey Cantillo, who tossed 5.0 innings while striking out nine batters and allowing only one earned run. Despite a late-game solo home run from Griffin Conine, the Marlins could not mount a sufficient comeback against the Guardians' bullpen.

Key Performances

Brayan Rocchio led the charge for Cleveland, finishing 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Chase DeLauter added to the production by going 1-for-5 with his own home run, while Kahlil Watson and Steven Kwan both contributed two hits apiece. Kyle Manzardo also chipped in with an RBI base hit, aiding the balanced offensive attack.

On the mound for Cleveland, Joey Cantillo was the standout, surrendering just one run on six hits in his five-inning outing. The relief core of Franco Aleman, Hunter Gaddis, and Shawn Armstrong were spotless in their respective appearances, while Cade Smith allowed a late home run to Griffin Conine but still helped secure the win. For Miami, Tyler Phillips struggled early, allowing two earned runs in one inning of work.

The Marlins' offense was limited throughout the night despite multi-hit performances from Xavier Edwards and Javier Sanoja. Griffin Conine provided the most significant spark with his home run, but the team ultimately could not overcome the early deficit created by the Guardians' offensive pressure and the subsequent shutdown pitching.
