Game Recap

The Houston Astros lost to the Washington Nationals 12-11 in a high-scoring contest at Nationals Park. Both teams combined for significant offensive production, keeping the crowd engaged throughout the nine innings. While the Astros put up a valiant effort, the Nationals offense maintained enough pressure to secure the one-run victory.

Houston starting pitcher Mike Burrows struggled, allowing 10 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits over 4.1 innings of work, including two home runs. The Astros bullpen attempted to stabilize the situation, with AJ Blubaugh pitching 1.2 innings, followed by scoreless appearances from Nate Pearson and Enyel De Los Santos. On the opposing side, Nationals starter Miles Mikolas pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 7 earned runs on 9 hits before handing the game over to the bullpen.

Key Performances

The Nationals' offensive surge was fueled by James Wood, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and 4 RBIs while drawing 3 walks. Curtis Mead and CJ Abrams were also instrumental in the win, as both players went 3-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBIs each. Nasim Nunez also contributed heavily with a 3-for-4 performance.

Despite the loss, several Astros hitters had standout performances. Brice Matthews went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a home run, while Jose Altuve added a home run and 3 RBIs in his 1-for-5 outing. Yainer Diaz also made an impact, going 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Braden Shewmake provided support as well, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

The defensive effort for Washington was bolstered by Clayton Beeter, who provided 1.1 innings of hitless relief to close out the game, striking out one batter and maintaining his 3.00 ERA. Cole Henry struggled in his 1.2 innings, surrendering 4 runs, but the early offensive cushion provided by the Nationals' lineup proved sufficient for the narrow win.
