Game Recap

Kansas City Royals lost to New York Mets 3-7 in a contest hosted at Citi Field. The Mets took control of the game early, fueled by a productive offense that saw key players contribute both power and consistency throughout the nine innings.

New York starting pitcher Sean Manaea put together a strong performance, going 7.0 innings and allowing only 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 Royals hitters. On the other side, Michael Wacha struggled through 4.2 innings, surrendering 6 runs on 6 hits, which ultimately placed the Royals in a hole they could not escape.

Key Performances

The Royals offense saw solo home run efforts from Lane Thomas and Bobby Witt Jr., who each finished the game 1-for-4. Despite these individual efforts, the remainder of the Royals lineup could not sustain momentum against the Mets' pitching staff. Nick Loftin provided a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4, and Jac Caglianone added an RBI in his 1-for-4 showing.

For the Mets, Juan Soto was a major factor, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, and an RBI. Tyrone Taylor also contributed to the power surge with a home run in his 2-for-3 performance. Carson Benge paced the Mets' hit column, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Jared Young added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI of his own.

Relief efforts were solid for the Mets, with Huascar Brazoban striking out two in a scoreless inning and Devin Williams closing out the game with a scoreless ninth. The Royals bullpen managed to keep the game in reach with Lucas Erceg and Jose Cuas combining for 2.1 scoreless innings of work, but the early deficit proved too significant to overcome.
