Game Recap

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the New York Mets 8-3 on a day where the home team utilized a powerful finish to secure the victory at Citi Field. Despite a solid starting effort from Emmet Sheehan, who surrendered only one earned run over five innings while striking out five, the Dodgers' bullpen struggled to contain the Mets in the latter stages of the game.

The Dodgers initially looked competitive against Mets starter Freddy Peralta, who allowed three runs (two earned) across four innings. However, the New York relief corps proved stingy, with Cionel Perez, Brooks Raley, Luke Weaver, and Devin Williams combining to shut down the Dodgers for the remainder of the contest, allowing only three hits over the final five frames.

The momentum shifted decisively when the Mets tapped into their power in the middle innings. Jack Dreyer, Evan Phillips, and Will Klein struggled against the New York lineup, combining to give up seven runs. A pivotal moment came when Marcus Semien and Tyrone Taylor each connected for home runs, accounting for six of the Mets' eight runs.

Key Performances

For the Mets, Marcus Semien provided a significant boost, going 1-for-1 with a three-run home run. Tyrone Taylor matched that output, also finishing 1-for-3 with a three-run homer. Bo Bichette added to the offensive production by going 2-for-4, while A.J. Ewing reached base multiple times, finishing 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.

The Dodgers' offense was led by Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez, who both contributed multi-hit games by going 2-for-4. Freddie Freeman also provided a spark, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI. Shohei Ohtani recorded one hit in four at-bats, while Eliezer Alfonzo added an RBI single in his brief appearance, going 1-for-2.

Devin Williams anchored the final frame for New York, striking out three batters in a single inning to seal the win. Emmet Sheehan's departure after the fifth inning shifted the weight to the Dodgers' bullpen, which could not maintain the lead against the surging Mets offense.
