Game Recap

The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 2-1 in a closely contested battle at Wrigley Field. Pitching was the dominant story of the afternoon, as the Yankees' staff combined to limit the Cubs' offense to just one run on four hits over the course of the game.

The offensive highlight for the Yankees came courtesy of Jose Caballero, who went 2-for-3 and provided the decisive blow with a home run, driving in two runs. That production proved to be the difference in a game where both teams struggled to find consistency at the plate.

Gerrit Cole started for New York, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing four hits and one run, striking out five. He was supported by a strong bullpen effort as Brent Headrick, Paul Blackburn, and David Bednar combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief to secure the narrow victory.

The Cubs managed only one run on the day, which was driven in by Michael Busch. Despite drawing several walks, including three by Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Chicago offense could not capitalize with enough key hits to overtake the Yankees, ending the day with a 2-1 defeat.
