Game Recap

The San Diego Padres defeated the Miami Marlins 4-2 on a night where timely hitting and bullpen depth made the difference at loanDepot park. While both teams managed to put runs on the board early, it was a collective effort from the San Diego pitching staff that ultimately silenced the Miami bats when it mattered most, securing a two-run victory on the road.

German Marquez started for the Padres and delivered 2.1 innings of work, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four. The Padres then turned to a parade of relievers, including Kyle Hart, who provided 2.0 scoreless innings, and Mason Miller, who closed out the final frame to seal the win. The pitching staff combined to keep the Marlins to just two runs on nine hits throughout the contest.

The offensive spark for San Diego was ignited by Luis Rengifo, who made the most of his lone at-bat, launching a home run that drove in two crucial runs. Manny Machado also played a pivotal role, going 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Jackson Merrill contributed an RBI in his 0-for-4 outing. The Padres' patience at the plate was evident as well, with Jake Cronenworth drawing three walks to keep rallies alive.

Key Performances

Ty France also put together a solid performance, going 2-for-4, while Luis Rengifo provided the game's most efficient power display with his solo home run contributing to a two-RBI performance in his only plate appearance.

For the Marlins, Heriberto Hernandez and Joe Mack provided the power, each connecting for a solo home run. Xavier Edwards added a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4, but the Marlins struggled to string together consistent offense against the San Diego relief corps. Ryan Gusto started for Miami, working 3.1 innings and allowing one run while striking out four, but the bullpen ultimately surrendered the lead late in the game.
