Game Recap

San Diego Padres defeated the Miami Marlins 7-2 in a decisive performance at loanDepot park. The Padres' offense clicked early and consistently, putting pressure on the Marlins' pitching staff throughout the evening to secure the victory.

Randy Vasquez started for San Diego, providing 2.2 innings of work while allowing only one run on one hit. He was relieved by JP Sears, who stabilized the game over 3.1 innings, striking out three batters and allowing no runs. Yuki Matsui and Matt Waldron closed out the final three innings to maintain the lead, with Waldron allowing one run in his two frames of work.

The Marlins' starter Eury Perez worked 7.0 innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits, but the game shifted in favor of the visitors when Dax Fulton entered from the bullpen. Fulton struggled over 2.0 innings, conceding four runs on four hits and three walks, allowing the Padres to break the game open.

Key Performances

Jackson Merrill provided a spark for the Padres, finishing his night with an impressive 3-for-4 performance. Ty France was equally impactful, driving in three runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Jase Bowen also contributed significantly off the bench, tallying a hit and two RBIs in his only at-bat, while Jake Cronenworth reached base multiple times, finishing 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.

For the Marlins, Esteury Ruiz was a standout, recording two hits and scoring both of Miami's runs. Otto Lopez and Kyle Stowers provided the only RBIs for the home team, as both players went 1-for-2 and 1-for-3 respectively with a walk. Despite the offensive efforts from Ruiz and Lopez, the Marlins were unable to overcome the gap created by the Padres' late-inning surge.
