Game Recap

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 at Progressive Field, showcasing a well-rounded performance that featured solid pitching and crucial hits at key moments. The Mariners opened the scoring in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a pitching error and a follow-up home run to secure the victory.

The Mariners initially struggled against Guardians' pitcher Joey Cantillo, who struck out nine batters over six innings. Despite this, the Mariners managed to find their rhythm in the late innings, starting with a walk from Cal Raleigh followed by a base hit from Julio Rodriguez. Notably, Colt Emerson connected for a pivotal home run in the seventh inning, contributing to the Mariners’ scoring surge.

Seattle’s starting pitcher, Luis Castillo, had a productive outing, pitching six innings while allowing only four hits and one earned run. His ability to lace together strikeouts (four in total) while maintaining control with just one walk was key to stifling the Guardians’ batting lineup.

On the Guardians' side, Kyle Manzardo made a mark with a single and a run scored, but the team's overall production fell short. The Guardians struggled to capitalize on opportunities, as evident by their overall base running inefficiencies and inability to bring runners home.

Cal Raleigh, while not hitting, played a pivotal role in drawing a walk that set the stage for scoring opportunities later in the game. Additionally, J.P. Crawford provided offensive support with a crucial hit that drove in a run, underscoring the team’s ability to come through in high-pressure moments.

In the closing innings, Seattle's bullpen made sure to maintain the lead, with Jose Ferrer and Andres Munoz both delivering scoreless frames. Munoz recorded two strikeouts, adding to the Mariners' strong pitching performance overall.

Key Performances
