Game Recap

The Seattle Mariners lost to the Washington Nationals 3-8 at Nationals Park, marking another significant victory for Washington. The Nationals took control early in the game, putting together a series of offensive rallies that ultimately overwhelmed the Mariners. A particularly strong performance by CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. proved pivotal, as they combined to drive in key runs that cemented the Nationals' lead.

Washington got off to a solid start when Luis Garcia Jr. hit a home run, contributing 2 RBIs and scoring twice himself in a powerful display. CJ Abrams also had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and ensuring continued pressure on the Mariners' pitching staff. The combination of hitting and strategic baserunning led to a score that the Mariners struggled to match.

Despite a few bright spots, the Mariners couldn't find their rhythm at the plate. Julio Rodriguez, a consistent performer, went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, while Josh Naylor and Luke Raley also struggled, both going hitless in their at-bats. Mitch Garver provided some offense with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring 1 run and driving in another, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.

On the pitching front, Mariners' starter Luis Castillo struggled early, surrendering 5 runs (2 earned) over 5.2 innings of work. Gabriel Speier managed to hold Washington scoreless for a brief moment, but Jose Ferrer was unable to maintain that momentum, allowing 3 runs in just a third of an inning. In contrast, the Nationals' Cade Cavalli delivered a solid performance, going 5 innings and allowing just 3 runs while striking out 5 hitters.

The Nationals' bullpen showcased impressive depth and control, with both PJ Poulin and Orlando Ribalta managing to keep the Mariners' batting lineup at bay for 1.2 innings without allowing any further runs. This strong showing contributed to Washington's ability to secure an 8-3 victory.
