Game Recap

San Francisco Giants lost to San Diego Padres 4-5 in a closely contested battle at Petco Park. The Padres offense managed to put enough pressure on Giants starter Landen Roupp early, plating five runs in his 4.2 innings of work. While the Giants fought back with solo home runs from Rafael Devers and Osleivis Basabe, they fell just short in the final innings.

The Padres scoring was anchored by a productive day from Jackson Merrill, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and two RBIs. Jake Cronenworth also chipped in, driving in two runs on a 1-for-5 afternoon. Despite a late-game rally attempt by San Francisco, the San Diego bullpen managed to hold the lead, with Adrian Morejon closing out the game with three strikeouts over 1.1 scoreless innings.

Key Performances

For the Giants, Rafael Devers provided a spark by going 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. Osleivis Basabe also cleared the fences, finishing 1-for-3 with a run scored. Jung Hoo Lee tallied a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3, and Willy Adames added an RBI on his 1-for-4 performance. On the mound, the Giants' relief corps, led by Sam Hentges and Dylan Smith, combined for 2.1 scoreless innings to keep the team within striking distance.

San Diego saw Ty France reach base consistently, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Luis Campusano contributed a key RBI, finishing 1-for-4, while Gavin Sheets went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. Starting pitcher Kyle Hart set a steady tone for the Padres, tossing 3.0 innings of shutout ball while allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The game featured a series of pitching transitions, as both teams relied heavily on their depth. While the Giants' Landen Roupp struggled against the San Diego bats, allowing five earned runs, the late-game relief efforts from Jeremiah Estrada and Bradgley Rodriguez ensured the Padres maintained their narrow advantage until Adrian Morejon secured the final outs.
