Game Recap

The Washington Nationals lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-8 at Truist Park. The Braves' pitching staff stifled the Nationals' offense for much of the game, led by starter Martin Perez, who tossed 7.0 innings of one-hit baseball while allowing no runs and striking out six. The Nationals struggled to generate momentum until the late innings, when they managed to put three runs on the board against reliever Danny Young.

Atlanta's offense came alive with a strong display of power, totaling three home runs on the day. Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, and Dominic Smith each connected for a solo shot to help pace the Braves to an 8-3 victory. The Nationals' pitching staff faced difficulties, as Miles Mikolas surrendered four runs on nine hits, including three home runs, over his 6.0 innings of work.

The defensive struggles for Washington deepened in the bottom of the seventh inning. Riley Cornelio, coming on in relief, allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning, despite not surrendering a hit, as he issued three walks. Eddy Yean eventually entered and provided stability, pitching 1.1 innings with two strikeouts to close out the frame without yielding further damage.

Key Performances

For the Braves, Austin Riley led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Dominic Smith also contributed significantly, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Matt Olson both provided key solo home runs in their respective 1-for-4 and 1-for-3 efforts. Mike Yastrzemski added a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4.
