Game Recap

The Washington Nationals lost to the Atlanta Braves 2-4 in a closely contested matchup at Truist Park. While both teams managed to generate offensive opportunities early, the Braves utilized key power hitting to secure the victory, holding the Nationals scoreless for the remainder of the game after the initial frames.

Nationals starter Cade Cavalli pitched 6.0 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, though only 2 of those were earned. He surrendered 2 home runs during his outing while striking out 3. The Braves' pitching staff, led by starter JR Ritchie, kept the Nationals offense largely at bay, with relief pitchers Dylan Dodd, Didier Fuentes, Dylan Lee, and Raisel Iglesias combining to shut down Washington for the rest of the game.

Key Performances

For the Atlanta Braves, Matt Olson proved to be a difference-maker, going 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI. Mike Yastrzemski also contributed significantly, going 1-for-2 and driving in two runs with his home run. Mauricio Dubon and Austin Riley both recorded one hit and scored a run to support the offensive effort.

On the side of the Washington Nationals, Keibert Ruiz had a productive night, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. James Wood and Andres Chaparro each accounted for an RBI despite limited base hits. Daylen Lile and Jorbit Vivas both managed to contribute to the offense with a hit and a walk apiece, while Jose Tena crossed home plate once despite failing to record a hit.

The Nationals' bullpen provided stability in the later innings, as Orlando Ribalta allowed 1 run in his inning of work, and Max Kranick provided a scoreless inning to close out the game. Despite the efforts, the Nationals were unable to overcome the early deficit created by the Braves' long-ball success.
